Toni55

I am a 55 year old woman who has had a rough 4 years.  I have been unable to find or keep a job in those years.  I have a high school education and was able to keep good jobs when the economy was good.  I live with my mother.  I really want a good job so I can help support her.  I was in the computer technician field but since I've not worked in over four years, technology has skyrocketed over my head.  That industry is for the young and ambitious.  My credit is ruined.  I almost had a good job but my credit was bad so I did not get hired.  Go figure.  Anyway, does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?  Any help is greatly apreciated.

Hi Sara

I am sorry about your husband job loss and I hope he can find employment again soon.

Call 211 and ask about any programs to help you with utilites and look at my blog for some information too. To get to my blog just click the horse picture.

Check this link out and contact your nearest location for help with utilities

http://www.svdpusa.org/

Are you employed? If so try modestneeds.com as I know a couple of people been helped some there and I know people who have used microgiving.com.

That is all I can think of at the moment..

Good luck

So many people have been posting here who are having the same problem as you - meaning they are facing the shutoff of their utilities.

There may be some things that you can do to avoid your services getting shut off.  First of all have you talked with your utility company?  They should have some programs that can help you and / or they should be willing to make some sort of payment arrangement with you.  You may not know this or not but even utility companies have someone that they have to answer to so if you feel that you are not being treated right you can report them!

Also you haven't stated how much you owe on your utility bill.  There are government programs out there to help people who are considered low-incomed with their heating bill.  There are also organizations and charities outside of the government that also have programs to help with emergency financial problems.  One that I know of simply requires you to send a copy of your shut off notice and depending upon the amount you owe they will send a payment to your utility company.  Another charitable organization has a program where they provide up to $9,000 for emergency financial need including medical emergencies and funeral expenses.

If the amount you owe is not too big then you may want to consider going online and simply requesting the money.  I have seen quite a few sites where people can request money.  Some of these sites require that you submit documentation supporting your request but I have found at least one site where you can submit your request for money without having to submit any additional documentation.  All that is required is that you submit your request stating how much money you are requesting and what you need the money for.  Requests of $100 to $1000 can be made and higher requests will be considered if there is a compelling enough reason.  I even saw one person requesting $22,000!

Not every request is honored (personally I think that that would be impossible) but some of the requests are honored.  For example someone received money to have their car fixed.  A woman received money to buy clothes for her children and a college student received money to buy some books.

The only reason that I know about these programs is because grant research is what I do and this is the kind of information that has been requested by clients.

So if you are willing to do the work to find these programs then you shouldn't have too much trouble finding them.

You can also read some of my previous replies to people who have posted here with problems that are similar to yours by looking at my Aidpage

About "deleting" groups from the list of "My groups"...

The list is generated automatically as a result of your activity on Aidpage (adding keywords, posting comments, etc.).

While technically possible, it will not be easy for you to make the list shorter.

You'll need to go to each group that you want to take off your list. Once there (on the page of the group) use the link "Options" that appears under your own avatar - click the link "Remove myself from this space".

However, if you use categories (tags, keywords) on your own blog pages which are shared with some of these groups, the system will eventually link you back to these groups.

Generally speaking, it doesn't make much sense to try to manage the list "My groups" - simply don't use it so much as a navigational tool.

The category (tag, keyword) is added to the post... not to the account of the person who adds the category.

Does Aidpage offer any documentation on just what the Add a Category link does?  For example, does it add the category to the post where the link is found, or to the account for the person who clicks on this link?

Does Aidpage offer any way to delete any groups from those already on my list, so that I can concentrate on those I'm more likely to be able to help?

Stardust7,

Aidpage cannot and will not be helpful to all people.

However, in your case, it seems that the lack of response was at least partly due to your very low level of engagement on Aidpage.

You have made basically only two posts since you joined Aidpage back in March 2007. And your profile info is empty.

Aidpage works best for people who are willing to engage in conversations (through public posts or private messages) with other members. This is how you can get some benefit from Aidpage.

Simply asking for money - and then waiting passively for a response - doesn't work.

About the email notifications - it is easy to stop them from the link provided in each email you receive from Aidpage.

Best,
AidpageTeam

in response to FIVE SIBLINGS LOST PARENTS TO ...

Hi

I saw your post then distracted by people taking a lady to the hospital next door.

Like ekikiaseven's reply and I am sorry for your loss of your parents too. I tried to see if there was any programs available to help you as there  is cash assistance temporary for families. I looked and then called my girlfriend whose brother and his wife were killed by a drunken driver as they were coming home from a trip. There van was in front of there's and the baby of Judy's brother and his wife Jane, lived as Jane was holding her.   I wanted to see when Judy and her husband took in the baby as they had a daughter of their own, if Judy and her husband recieved any compensation for doing so. She told me they didn't. I remember that the young man who was drunk made little or no payment he was suppose to as it was long ago..

You can try to call 211 for any kind of resources they might help you with and apply to modestneeds.com. There are other one time programs in my blog. Call 866 3 hungry for food resources and there are low cost food centers too in my blog..

See about getting on low income assistance with utilities too.

There is an exercise lady who lost both of her parents at 18 and she was the only sibling. She fought her depression by running and made a career out of exercise.

take care and I wish you the best...

Oh the free car charity site is for car repairs too or a car.

I was told by someone in the beginning that it was for other things but that isn't the case and the free car website explains that..

You are welcome for the help...

Hi
I don't know if this is going to help but you can check it out and see previous post of mine

http://general-help-for-christmas-car-repair-or-anything-else-see-thes.starshine1.aidpage.com/

try wishuponahero and freecycle etc. Most Christmas programs took applications in Oct. 2009 but you can try your local Salvation Army to see if there is a chance to get in still.

I can't promise anything on Christmas

Hopefully it will turn out better than expected.. The fact you have each other is great.

See what happens and give it them a call and others listed

best to you
